How to Organize and De-Clutter Your Home without Being Overwhelmed

Do you get overwhelmed with the clutter in your home? Maybe you get even more overwhelmed at the thought of what to do with all the clutter. Clutter adds stress to your life and environment. A home that is well-organized is much more pleasant to live in. Not to mention, you use items more efficiently and you aren’t searching endlessly for what’s needed. If junk keeps piling up, you’ll soon outgrow your house. De-clutter your home with an organized method.
Getting Started
Choose one room to start with. De-cluttering in steps is less overwhelming and you’ll get more accomplished. If you don’t have a lot of time, you don’t have to de-clutter an entire room all at once. Start with one drawer or closet at a time. Set a goal of decluttering at least a small area once a day. This gives a sense of accomplishment and incentive to keep going. Going from left to right of a room can help you stay focused. Get the entire family involved.
Separate Items
Separate items into the following categories
* throw aways
* donate, give away, yard sale
* keep in place
* items wanted, but to store elsewhere
Items that haven’t been used for a long time are taking up space. Some may not even be usable. Throw these away. You may have items that are still usable, but not to you. Donate to Good Will, The Salvation Army or a needy family in your community. If you like yard sales, have one of your own. Yard sales can be quite enjoyable. You get rid of unneeded items, while meeting new and interesting people. You help someone else and can earn money to purchase something you really want. A focus on giving will help you detach from items you don’t really need.
For items that are needed or wanted, use baskets, boxes or other containers to neatly organize them. I’ve even used pretty flower pots to store small items such as cosmetics, pens and pencils, etc. Look around the house for items you can use for containers before buying something new.
For items that are rarely used, but you want to keep, buy plastic storage boxes and put them in a dry basement, garage or attic. Even space under the bed will work well as under-the-bed storage boxes are readily available. Hat boxes, decorative trunks also offer added storage.
Daily Items
Why make decluttering harder on yourself? As soon as you get the mail out of the box, separate it. Throw junk mail away. Have a place for bills. When you walk out of a room take something that doesn’t belong in there to where it does belong, such as dirty dishes or magazines scattered around. The main living area usually gets cluttered by the daily items. Spending a few minutes a day on decluttering will prevent you from having to do a complete overhaul in the long run.
The Kitchen
Start with one cabinet. Assess each item carefully. How often do you use it? How well does it serve you? How many glasses, plates, frying pans, etc. are needed for your family size? Downsize appropriately. Organize similar items together and the most needed items in areas you can access the easiest.
Wire racks can double your space. I found them at Wal-Mart for little cost. This gives more space especially for storing canned food since you store cans under the rack and then on top of them.
Take everything out of junk drawers and under the sink. Throw away those expired store and restaurant coupons and anything that’s a waste of space. Organize silverware neatly in trays made for them, inside of drawers.
Downsize on cleaning products. Choose a couple favorites and lessen your clutter. Better yet…go natural and use products such as white vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is one of my favorites to organize. Take everything out of the medicine cabinet. Check expiration dates on medicines and vitamins. Throw out anything that has expired. Learn to buy only items that are needed. You don’t need numerous brands of shampoo, hair spray, etc. Stick to a couple of brands that have proven to work well. Organize by “like” items.
Clear the vanity. Organize make-up and other items neatly in baskets or small bins. Store shampoo, shaving cream, etc. under the vanity in easy pull-out plastic baskets. Buy a tall metal or wood bathroom shelf for storing towels. I bought one for on sale and it looks very pretty. Or, towels can be rolled and a few placed in a large wicker basket.
While you’re at it…look through make-up items and dispose of anything you no longer use or has passed it’s prime. Old make-up can cause eye infections. Clean brushes, sharpen eye and lip liners. Place most-used lipstick, liners, brushes in a small decorative container and place on vanity for easy access.
Bedrooms
Bedrooms should offer a sense of tranquility. Less is better! If the top of your dressers are cluttered, remove everything and decide on a few items to use. The rest can be stored and used later for a variety. Use a basket to store a few books or magazines. Clean out drawers and discard unusuables or give away usable items.
Think of a theme for your bedroom. Add ambience by using scented candles and looking for items around your house that will fit the theme. Sometimes using items in different rooms can feel like you’ve bought new.
A simple way to add new pictures to your decor is to print an image from the internet on parchment, glossy or matte paper; place it in a pretty frame. Very inexpensive and you can change the look anytime you want. Make sure the images are free to use.
Children’s bedrooms should be simplistic, offering enough space to move around and play. Put toys in storage bins or toy boxes. Have a hamper for each child’s dirty clothes. A desk is nice for doing homework. Pencils, paper and other supplies should be neatly organized on the desk.
Closets
Take clothing out of closets. Sort clothing by what fits “now”. Also sort by season. Store items that are out of season. Donate clothing that no longer fits or at least store it away if you have a goal to lose weight. If you become very undecided on a few articles, put them aside and concentrate on what you are sure about. Go back to the ones you aren’t sure of later.
Use shoe organizers for shoes or other items such as gloves, scarves, etc. There are many other closet organizes. Choose according to what fits your items and your closet size. Think twice before buying more clothing, impulsively.
Arrange clothing by color, short sleeve or long sleeve, pants, skirts, dresses, coats, etc.
DeStress and Reward
Many people get stressed over not knowing where to start. The key to doing this (so you don’t go crazy) is to do it in small steps, but stick to your plan. You might want to de-clutter a drawer while watching tv. The next day you can de-clutter another drawer. De-cluttering doesn’t have to be a dreaded task.
I de-clutter frequently and find the better organized I am, the better I feel on a daily basis. I can find what I need and make better use of what I have. Clutter can cause stress and de-cluttering can offer a sense of accomplishment. Reward yourself or your family with a nice dinner out on the town or maybe a movie. You deserve it!
Choosing bathroom taps for your home- Helpful Tips & Advice?

Article by Bob Snowzell

Woodie’s DIY will show you how to replace a bathroom taps. This is a clever and cost effective way of adding some extra style to your bathroom sink.
How to Remodel a Bathroom Inexpensively

Too many people spend thousands of dollars to remodel their bathrooms. Many feel that they have to hire a contractor, get the best finishes and spend tons of money to get exactly what they want. The truth is that you can remodel a bathroom inexpensively and still have beautiful finishes. Here is how.
Do Your Own Work
One of the best ways to remodel your bathroom inexpensively is to do as much of the work yourself as possible. Do some research to find out what things you could easily do yourself and what you will need help with. Things like paint, flooring, changing out light fixtures and installing a new mirror or vanity are all things that most home owners can do with some research. However things like lighting, plumbing or major structural changes are things you should leave to the professionals.
Don’t Change the Layout
If at all possible, leave the basic footprint of the room alone. Try not to move things like plumbing, lighting and walls because doing so gets very costly. See if there are other solutions to your layout problems that won’t break your budget. You would be surprised how much money this one tip could save you.
Use Paint
For cosmetic issues in your remodel, see if they can be fixed with paint. Remove wallpaper and put up a few coats of fresh paint, paint your light fixtures to update their look inexpensively or even paint your pink or green tub a clean white using a paint kit specifically designed for the job. If you want to get rid of something because it simply doesn’t look good, see if you can paint it for an inexpensive update.
Find Cheaper Options
Though you may want to get real stone flooring, granite countertops and a cherry wood vanity, these items can be extremely expensive. However, you can typically get the look of these expensive finishes for much less. For example, instead of real stone flooring, why not use ceramic tile made to look like stone to get the same look for less. Another inexpensive option is purchase a laminate countertop made to look like granite. So whatever look you are going for in your bathroom remodel, be sure to look for less expensive options to get the same look for less.
Always Use Coupons
Finally, make sure that you always use coupons for the items you are buying for your remodel. Stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot always have some kind of coupon available to help you save money. Take advantage of these coupons to significantly bring down the cost of your bathroom remodel.
So if you are looking to remodel your bathroom, it does not have to be expensive. Use these tips to bring down the cost of your remodeling project. Remember that so long as you are happy with the end result, a bathroom remodel does not have to cost a fortune. So start gathering your coupons, paint, inexpensive finishes and get to work.
Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain’s sovereigns since 1837.
It evolved from a town house that was owned from the beginning of the eighteenth century by the Dukes of Buckingham. Today it is The Queen’s official residence, with 775 rooms.
Although in use for the many official events and receptions held by The Queen, areas of Buckingham Palace are opened to visitors on a regular basis.
The State Rooms of the Palace are open to visitors during the Annual Summer Opening in August and September. They are lavishly furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection – paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Poussin, Canaletto and Claude; sculpture by Canova and Chantrey; exquisite examples of Sèvres porcelain; and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world.
History
George III bought Buckingham House in 1761 for his wife Queen Charlotte to use as a comfortable family home close to St James’s Palace, where many court functions were held. Buckingham House became known as the Queen’s House, and 14 of George III’s 15 children were born there.
In 1762 work began on remodelling the house to the King’s requirements, to designs by Sir William Chambers, at a cost of £73,000.
George IV, on his accession in 1820, decided to reconstruct the house into a pied-à-terre, using it for the same purpose as his father George III.
As work progressed, and as late as the end of 1826, the King had a change of heart. With the assistance of his architect, John Nash, he set about transforming the house into a palace. Parliament agreed to a budget of £150,000, but the King pressed for £450,000 as a more realistic figure.
Nash retained the main block but doubled its size by adding a new suite of rooms on the garden side facing west. Faced with mellow Bath stone, the external style reflected the French neo-classical influence favoured by George IV.
The remodelled rooms are the State and semi-State Rooms, which remain virtually unchanged since Nash’s time.
Many of the pieces of furniture and works of art in these rooms were bought or made for Carlton House (George IV’s London base when he was Prince of Wales), which was demolished in 1827.
The north and south wings of Buckingham House were demolished and rebuilt on a larger scale with a triumphal arch – the Marble Arch – as the centrepiece of an enlarged courtyard, to commemorate the British victories at Trafalgar and Waterloo.
By 1829 the costs had escalated to nearly half a million pounds. Nash’s extravagance cost him his job, and on the death of George IV in 1830, his younger brother William IV took on Edward Blore to finish the work.
The King never moved into the Palace. Indeed, when the Houses of Parliament were destroyed by fire in 1834, the King offered the Palace as a new home for Parliament, but the offer was declined.
Queen Victoria was the first sovereign to take up residence in July 1837, just three weeks after her accession, and in June 1838 she was the first British sovereign to leave from Buckingham Palace for a Coronation. Her marriage to Prince Albert in 1840 soon showed up the Palace’s shortcomings.
A serious problem for the newly married couple was the absence of any nurseries and too few bedrooms for visitors. The only solution was to move the Marble Arch – it now stands at the north-east corner of Hyde Park – and build a fourth wing, thereby creating a quadrangle.
Blore, the architect in charge, created the East Front and, thanks largely to his builder, Thomas Cubitt, the costs were reduced from £150,000 to £106,000. The cost of the new wing was largely covered by the sale of George IV’s Royal Pavilion at Brighton.
Blore added an attic floor to the main block of the Palace and decorated it externally with marble friezes originally intended for Nash’s Marble Arch. The work was completed in 1847.
By the turn of the century the soft French stone used in Blore’s East Front was showing signs of deterioration, largely due to London’s notorious soot, and required replacing.
In 1913 the decision was taken to reface the façade. Sir Aston Webb, with a number of large public buildings to his credit, was commissioned to create a new design. Webb chose Portland Stone, which took 12 months to prepare before building work could begin. When work did start it took 13 weeks to complete the refacing, a process that included removing the old stonework.
The present forecourt of the Palace, where Changing the Guard takes place, was formed in 1911, as part of the Victoria Memorial scheme.
The gates and railings were also completed in 1911; the North-Centre Gate is now the everyday entrance to the Palace, whilst the Central Gate is used for State occasions and the departure of the guard after Changing the Guard.
The work was completed just before the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
Today
Besides being the official London residence of The Queen, Buckingham Palace is also the busy administrative headquarters of the Monarchy and has probably the most famous façade of any building in the world.
Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. These include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. In measurements, the building is 108 metres long across the front, 120 metres deep (including the central quadrangle) and 24 metres high.
The Palace is very much a working building and the centrepiece of Britain’s constitutional monarchy. It houses the offices of those who support the day-to-day activities and duties of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and their immediate family.
The Palace is also the venue for great Royal ceremonies, State Visits and Investitures, all of which are organised by the Royal Household.
Although Buckingham Palace is furnished and decorated with priceless works of art that form part of the Royal Collection, one of the major art collections in the world today, it is not an art gallery and nor is it a museum.
Its State Rooms form the nucleus of the working Palace and are used regularly by The Queen and members of the Royal Family for official and State entertaining.
More than 50,000 people visit the Palace each year as guests to banquets, lunches, dinners, receptions and the Royal Garden Parties.
For those who do receive an invitation to Buckingham Palace, the first step across the threshold is into the Grand Hall and up the curving marble stairs of the Grand Staircase. Portraits are still set in the walls, as they were by Queen Victoria.
The Throne Room, sometimes used during Queen Victoria’s reign for Court gatherings and as a second dancing room, is dominated by a proscenium arch supported by a pair of winged figures of ‘victory’ holding garlands above the ‘chairs of state’.
It is in the Throne Room that The Queen, on very special occasions like Jubilees, receives loyal addresses. Another use of the Throne Room has been for formal wedding photographs.
George IV’s original palace lacked a large room in which to entertain. Queen Victoria rectified that shortcoming by adding in 1853-5 what was, at the time of its construction, the largest room in London.
At 36.6m long, 18m wide and 13.5m high, the Ballroom is the largest multi-purpose room in Buckingham Palace. It was opened in 1856 with a ball to celebrate the end of the Crimean War.
It is along the East Gallery that The Queen and her State guests process to the Ballroom for the State Banquet normally held on the first day of the visit.
Around 150 guests are invited and include members of the Royal Family, the government and other political leaders, High Commissioners and Ambassadors and prominent people who have trade or other associations with the visiting country.
Today, it is used by The Queen for State banquets and other formal occasions such as the annual Diplomatic Reception attended by 1,500 guests.
This is a very formal occasion during which The Queen will meet every head of mission accredited to the Court of St James’s. For the diplomats it is perhaps the highlight of the annual diplomatic social calendar.
The Ballroom has been used variously as a concert hall for memorial concerts and performances of the arts and it is the regular venue for Investitures of which there are usually 21 a year – nine in spring, two in the summer and ten in the autumn.
At Investitures, The Queen (or The Prince of Wales as her representative) will meet recipients of British honours and give them their awards, including knighting those who have been awarded knighthoods.
From the Ballroom, the West Gallery, with its four Gobelin tapestries, leads into the first of the great rooms that overlook lawn and the formal gardens – setting for the annual Garden Parties introduced by Queen Victoria in 1868.
The State Dining Room is one of the principal State Rooms on the West side of the Palace. Many distinguished people have dined in this room including the 24 holders of the Order of Merit as well as presidents and prime ministers.
Before the Ballroom was added to the Palace in the 1850s, the first State Ball was held in the Blue Drawing Room in May 1838 as part of the celebrations leading up to Queen Victoria’s Coronation.
The Music Room was originally known as the Bow Drawing Room and is the centre of the suite of rooms on the Garden Front between the Blue and the White Drawing Rooms.
Four Royal babies – The Prince of Wales, The Princess Royal, The Duke of York and Prince William – were all christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Music Room.
One of its more formal uses is during a State Visit when guests are presented to The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and the visiting Head of State or for receptions.
The last of the suite of rooms overlooking the gardens on the principal floor is the White Drawing Room. Originally called the North Drawing Room, it is perhaps the grandest of all the State Rooms. The Room also serves as a Royal reception room for The Queen and members of the Royal Family to gather before State and official occasions.
The Bow Room is familiar to the many thousands of guests to Royal Garden Parties who pass through it on their way to the garden. It was originally intended as a part of George IV’s private apartments – to be the King’s Library – but it was never fitted up as such.
Instead, it has become another room for entertaining and is where The Queen holds the arrival lunch for a visiting Head of State at the start of a State visit.
The Queen’s Gallery
The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace is a permanent space dedicated to changing exhibitions of items from the Royal Collection, the wide-ranging collection of art and treasures held in trust by The Queen for the Nation. Constructed forty years ago on the west front of Buckingham Palace out of the bomb-damaged ruins of the former private chapel, the Gallery has recently been redeveloped. It was reopened by The Queen on 21 May 2002 and is now open to the public on a daily basis.

Making Your Bathroom Floor Comfortable As It Should Be

Article by Leroy Calstard
While many people look down at the floor of the bathroom and see nothing more than a few tiles and a bunch of body hair which has been summarily excised from numerous trips to and fro the shower, some people see a whole lot more. The truth is that your bathroom floor should be a comfortable place for you to be as you are there all alone so much of the time, you’re in there in the nude, you’re in there first thing in the morning, you’re in there last thing before bed so, at your most vulnerable you should remember that all points in the bathroom should be a soothing experience.
If you feel like you can’t make your bathroom floor a great place to be that you should reconsider that idea. If for nothing less than for the comfort of the visitors in your home, a bathroom floor should be a place you care about as much as your guest bedrooms.
The Deal With A Bathroom
The thing that many people will choose to forget about bathrooms is that everybody uses them. You use them, your spouse uses them, your children use them, your guests use them, and even the dog often gets a drink from them, so you should make sure that your bathroom is well appointed from ceiling to floor. If you have unkempt floors or if your floors are cracked and otherwise unpleasant that people are going to have a bad experience at your home when they are at their most private and you have no control over the outcome of their experience.
Extraordinary Measures for An Extraordinary Locale
Making sure the floors in your bathroom or well appointed is just one of the whole host of things you can do to make sure that your bathroom is a wonderful place to be. If you are trying to make your experience in the loo a memorable one or a least a pleasant one and not something to be looked upon disdainfully then you should try as best you are able to deck out all the appointments in this room in as great a way as possible. This includes the walls, the sink, the drain, the toilet, the tub, the shower curtain, the hand soap, and the bathroom floors

Make sure that you use a wet vacuum cleaner to keep the water from the wet saw from entering into areas that might damage flooring or wood framing that isn’t going to be removed.

And bathroom remodeling projects will pay back much more value into the home than they cost. By simply replacing the bathroom vanity unit, bathroom sink and faucets, one can easily modernize an outdated bathroom. Many of the homes built 10, 20 or 30 years ago have very outdated bathroom vanity units made of low-quality materials like particle board, which date the home.
Modern bathroom vanities come in all varieties; they can even be made to look as if they’re antique. Many of the modern bathroom vanity units have very sleek lines and minimal decorations, where as the antique-looking versions are grander and more intricately decorated. Bathroom sink designs have been raised to the level of art, as well. It is wise to spend some time researching what will look best in the bathroom for years to come, since bathroom sinks, vanities, facets and mirrors will have to compliment each other. Any individual pieces of the bathroom vanity unit will be a better investment if it can be switched out without completely upsetting the design.

Some bathroom vanity units are designed to hold a contemporary bathroom sink, which come in glass and above-counter options, for example. Other bathroom vanity units are designed to hold a more traditional under-mounted bathroom sink. Before beginning any bathroom remodeling project, homeowners should be sure that the bathroom vanity unit will accommodate the bathroom sink they have chosen. The right hardware and bathroom sink faucets are also necessary to enhance the look a homeowner is trying to achieve.
Perhaps the most important bathroom accessories are the vanity mirrors. A quick update in this department can dramatically change the look of the bathroom. Radox African Sanctuary Bath Theraphy

The Radox range of bath foams are currently on offer at the moment and as my favourite and usual brand have not bought out any new fragrance I have decided to give these ones a try. The last one I used was excellent so had no problems in picking this one up to try.
~~PACKAGING~~
The bath foam comes in a clear plastic bottle, this allows me to see the brown coloured liquid inside and be able to see exactly how much I have left. The bottle has a black screw ld which is very simple to use.
On the front of the bottle is a small label which has the Radox logo on the top and the product name in the middle. There is a small picture at the bottom is gold and brown colours showing the edge of a plant over water. On the back of the bottle there is another label which contains all of the product information, directions for use and ingredients.
~~USE AND RESULTS~~
It is very simple to use the bath foam, the screw lid just needs to be opened and a small amount poured under a running tap in the bath. I would recommend opening the bottle with a dry hand as it becomes hard when trying to grip the smooth plastic with wet hands. Once the liquid mixes with the running water it immediately starts to form bubbles and a good lather. I would day be careful when pouring as the liquid is very runny and only small amount is needed.
I had a good amount of lather and bubbles in my bath and it did last for the duration of my bath, this bath time was long and lasted 20 minute and not even half of the lather had gone by the time I finally got out. The lather also stayed in tact when washed my hair and this is a good thing as usually once the shampoo and conditioner hit it is start to dissolve extra quick. The bubbles were light and white in colour. The water was also clear and the liquid did not change the colour of it at all.
The fragrance is very good and you can smell it immediately once you open the lid. It smells very oriental and woody and it is very relaxing. The fragrance is not overly strong once in the bottle and even though it gets stronger when the lather in the bath forms it is still not strong enough to be over powering. The smell lasts for a good amount of time and it did even waft around the whole of the upstairs in my house. It is a good fragrance which suits both the male and female market. Once out of the water and I had dried off I was not able to smell the scent on my body but this did not bother me at all.
After bathing in this new bath foam I noticed how good my skin felt. I was very moisturised and left with no drying out skin. The freshness and moisture lasted for a good few hours after the bath. My hubby has sensitive skin and he has had no problems with using this bath foam.
~~INFO~~
The bath foam comes in a good size bottle which is 500ml. This would last when being used daily for about 2 weeks as only a small amount is needed. It lasts me a lot longer as I have so many other ones on the go at the same time. The shelf life of the bath foam once opened is 12 months.
The bottle is made form 100% plastic so can be fully recycled, this is usually as a bath toy for my boys in my house.
There are the usual warnings which come with this product, they include keeping away from babes and small children, avoiding contact with eyes and not to consume.
The product ingredient for those wishing to know are:-
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betain, Sodium Chloride, Thymus Vulgaris Oil, Aspa;lathusnLinearis Leaf Extract, Parfum, Lactic Acid, Polyquaternium-7, Limonene, Linalool, Glycerin, Maltodextrin, Sodium Benzoate, CI 16255, CI 19140, CI 42090
There is no indication on the bottle as to whether this product has been tested on animals or not.
~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~
This and the other products in the Radox brand are widely available in all supermarkets. They are priced around the £1.50 mark. I bought mine from Tesco where they are currently on offer for £1 per bottle which I think is great value for money.
~~RECOMMENDED?~~
I am more than happy to recommend this bath foam and give it the full 5 stars. The smell is great and it lasts when you want a good long soak in the bath. It is for both men and women and has a great price tag. This is a limited edition bath product so stock up whilst you can.

Those who prefer the traditional, simplistic designs probably like the clean lines and basic functionality of these models; they are also fairly easy to clean. There is also the added advantage of them being low-cost models.
Antique bathroom sink cabinets come in a variety of styles. They have the benefit of being not only stylish but functional as well. There is no doubt that an antique sink cabinet could single-handedly metamorphose the ambience of your bathroom, giving it a lovely old world feel! These sink cabinets basically focus on craftsmanship and are most likely to be in wood or wrought iron. However, when opting for antique sink cabinets make sure you know the type of wood that has been used to make your cabinet, and irrespective of what material they are made of ensure that you know the right care instructions for it. Moisture can have a bad effect on both your wood and wrought iron furniture if it isn’t preserved properly.
Today there is probably the largest variety of choices available to those who want to opt for non-traditional bathroom sink cabinets. They come in a variety of materials from metal, steel, wood, glass, porcelain etc to an even larger selection of designs! And, if you can’t find what you want you can even get them custom-designed! Now, what more could one possibly ask for?
